1. Using the Vignette option in the Lumetri Color panel. This is the easiest way.
- Select a clip in the timeline.
- Navigate to the Lumetri Color panel. If it isn't in your workspace, add it by finding it in the Window tab of your toolbar.
- In the vignette section at the bottom, adjust the following controls:
- Amount: Sets the amount of lightening or darkening along the edges of an image. Type a number in the box, or gradually shift the slider to shade the clip. Move the slider to the left, shifting your numbers to a negative value. This adds a vignette that surrounds your frame.
- Midpoint: Specify the width of the area affected by the Amount slider. Move the slider, or type a lower number to affect more of the image. Type a higher number to restrict the effect to the picture's edges.
- Roundness: Specify the size (roundness) of the vignette. Negative values cause an exaggerated vignette effect, and positive values cause a less visible vignette.
- Feather: Defines the edge of the vignette. A larger value creates a softer, thicker edge. A smaller value makes a more rigid, sharper edge.
2. Creating a mask. This way gives you the most control over the vignette's shape.
1. Select a clip in the timeline.
2. Navigate to the Effects panel. If it needs to be added to your workspace, find it in the Window tab of your toolbar.
3. Decrease the brightness and contrast.
4. Use the circle or square shape masks in the Brightness & Contrast section of the Effect Controls panel. Or, draw your mask using the Pen tool.
5. Click "Inverted."
6. Adjust feathering, mask opacity, and mask expansion.
3. Using a circle. This is the fastest way.
1. Create an adjustment layer and drag it on the track above the clip(s) where you want a vignette.
2. Drag a circle from the Effects panel to your adjustment layer.
3. Change the Blending Mode at the bottom of your Effect Controls panel to Stencil Alpha.
4. Tinker with the radius and the feathering so that the vignette is to your liking. You can also adjust the position if you don't want your vignette to be centered.
