How a High Number of Saves Can Boost Your Post's Visibility on Instagram's Algorithm
The Instagram “save” feature was launched in mid-2017 and continues to be one of the most critical engagement metrics on the platform today. TikTok even followed suit by introducing its similar feature, “favorites.” (As of September 2022, content creators on TikTok can see who favorited their videos.)
To the Instagram algorithm, a high number of saves is a key indicator that what you’re posting is quality content. Like any other Instagram interaction, the more you have, the more the company’s algorithm is instructed to position your post higher in your follower’s feed and higher on the explore page. This increases the chance of users seeing the post and leads to higher engagement down the line.
Moreover, many saves impact how the algorithm views your post more than the same number of likes.
According to a 2020 report by the Sachs Marketing Group called Instagram Saves are the New Super Like, the more saves your posts get, the more people will see them, according to the algorithm.
“If you want to grow your account, focus on getting people to save your posts,” the report reads.
Now that you know the importance of this feature, make your IG content “save” friendly by making it evergreen, which is more likely to be saved for reference later, and pack it with enough value for someone to go back to for a second look (or at least plan to). 😉
